Focal Trio6 gets 10 out of 10 in MusicTech's latest test
MusicTech writes: " Focal's Trio6 monitors are priced at approximately 23,000,- each, but are worth every penny. The renowned French studio monitor manufacturer has carefully redesigned their original professional series, and this top model delivers superior audio performance."
Following the Solo6 and Twin6, Focal expands its ST6 range with the Trio6, a 3-way monitor. This new flagship professional loudspeaker showcases Focal's expertise in acoustics and sound reproduction, with even more detail and transparency. Innovative speaker drivers, dual Focus mode, deactivatable automatic standby, laminar port and reinforced cabinet are just some of the features presented on this versatile workhorse that delivers uncompromising performance.
A DETAILED, TRANSPARENT SOUND
Produced in France at Focal's workshops, the Trio6 is equipped with an 8" subwoofer with a 'W' cone - a patented innovation. Additional features include a 5" midrange woofer incorporating TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) technology, which reduces distortion in the frequency range from 1kHz to 3kHz by 50%, as well as a new beryllium tweeter boasting IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) to control resonance. Its large laminated port significantly limits port noise, and its reinforced cabinet provides even better rigidity and damping, fewer vibrations and therefore less distortion. The Trio6 offers remarkable sonic neutrality across the full audio spectrum, as well as a precise midrange, powerful bass and excellent dynamics, resulting in very low distortion levels.
DUAL FOCUS MODE
The Trio6 features a dual Focus mode - either one-way or two-way - creating three monitors in one by combining the iconic Focus mode from the old SM9 star monitor with the new full-range Focus mode from the ST6 series. This new speaker driver configuration is accessible with the simple press of a pedal - as if you had a second pair of studio monitors with reduced frequency response, allowing you to control how the mix would adapt to smaller systems. Sound engineers can then maintain the "sweet spot" during mixing, saving space on the desk or console and simplifying cable routing and monitor changes.
SPECIFIC FEATURES
Like the Solo6 and Twin6, the Trio6 includes a variable high-pass crossover, a 160Hz parametric crossover to reduce console reflections, and an automatic standby mode that can be disengaged via a user-accessible switch for greater control over the speakers. With its impressive sliding speaker drivers, full analog filtering, and carefully considered design to enhance performance, the Trio6 is a versatile workhorse that will earn the full trust of audio engineers, sound designers, composers, beatmakers, and producers alike.
