Electro Harmonix EL84-EH
- Amplifier tube
Radio tubes are still used in a wide range of products from microphones to amplifiers. Each tube variant has slightly different non-linearities that result in the generation of different overtone series, which help color the sound in a musical way in a particular direction. Consult the product's technical specifications so that you are sure to order a compatible pipe type. Most tubes are available in matched pairs (2/4 units), as there may be a difference in timbre from unit to unit. The price is always indicated per PCS.
There are fewer pipe types than you would think when you see the many number and letter combinations. Many of these are actually the same, it's just the manufacturers' different designations for the same pipe type that can be confusing. For example, a 12AX7 (US military standard) is the same as an ECC83 (European) and a 7025 (Fender). There can of course be marginal differences between individual manufacturers, but these are very small margins we are talking about, and you can use the same pipe model from different manufacturers without damaging anything.
