The opsix mk II Altered FM Synthesizer is based on the FM engine of the original opsix, while the number of simultaneous voices has been expanded to an astonishing 64. The result is superior performance and precise control. The Opsix Operator Mixer simplified FM synthesis for the first time, making it not only understandable but also directly controllable. With the addition of additional synthesis options and programming, it offered a more efficient workflow and even more exciting sounds. The Opsix mk II is fully compatible with sounds and samples from both the original opsix and opsix Native software, including several high-quality KORG and 3rd-party libraries.
The heart of every sound is the opsix mk II's Operator Mixer - a simple setup with six faders and knobs that invite exploration. Each operator lights up red to indicate carrier or blue for modulators. As you manipulate them, you open up new sound-shaping possibilities that breathe new life into your musical ideas. This straightforward, practical workflow is part of what makes the opsix mk II as unique as the sounds it produces.
Whether you're tweaking a preset or building one from scratch, the six data entry buttons on the right give you quick access to the parameters you need, while the large OLED display gives you clear, focused feedback on your workflow. Together with the mixer, creating fresh sounds becomes super easy and, most importantly, fun!
Choose from a full range of analog-modeled filters, from the radical Korg MS-20 low-pass/high-pass filter to the powerful yet silky-smooth KORG Polysix low-pass filter that gives your sounds a vintage vibe. There are also two- or four-pole low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band reject filters with resonance. There's also a built-in spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope that gives you visual feedback via the screen of the music you're making.
The core of the opsix mk II is nothing short of exponential. Since waveforms can be arranged and modulated in almost infinite ways, the opsix mk II can easily be coaxed into emulating numerous types of synthesis that are far removed from FM:
opsix mk II is FM-based, but the similarities to classic FM synthesis end there. Its Altered FM architecture delivers sounds that cover a very wide spectrum, far wider than any single synthesis has been able to achieve before, thanks to new sound components; new types of waveforms, filters, shaping, effects, LFOs, envelopes, modulation options, etc.
The opsix mk II features three blocks, each with 30 high-definition effects that you can use to further refine your sounds. There's everything from a magnificent selection of usable standard effects like chorus, phaser, delay and compressor to world-class shimmer reverb.
The opsix mk II also features a fantastic step sequencer that rivals groove boxes in flexibility and possibilities. Press the PLAY button on any sound and experience the complexity of the sequences! Each program has its own unique sequence stored with it, and of course you can create your own from scratch. You can record up to six voices per step and edit each note's velocity, gate time and playback timing. Create long sequences or make subtle shifts in timing to mimic strums or drum beats, something not possible on typical 16-step sequencers. The Opsix's Motion Sequencer also lets you record changes to up to six parameters, creating smooth motion changes in the sound within a phrase, or building rhythms that change dramatically with each step.
The modulation capabilities of the Opsix mk II are nothing short of astonishing. With six operator modes and 40 preset algorithms, plus the ability to create your own, the Opsix mk II offers you unprecedented dynamic sonic possibilities. The MOD section operates separately from the operators with three EGs and three LFOs; and 12 virtual patch points. Create swirling soundscapes or add rhythmic movement to your sounds. It simply has to be experienced to fully understand how deep the rabbit hole goes.
If you’re in the mood for unexpected sonic discoveries, try the Randomize function. Press the button marked with the cube icon to completely distort the synth’s parameters and generate a new, unique sound. You can use the Randomize function on all parameters or just the operators, algorithm, or sequencer. You might hit a six, but if not, just try again, or use the result as a starting point for your next new sound.
