Ribbon microphones are distinguished by a very natural sound, it picks up sound close to the human ear. It sounds softer and warmer, and has a treble that is not as sharp as many other types of microphones.
They are very suitable for recording vocals and guitar, but also try it as an overhead for drums or an ambience microphone for a nice natural sound.
The Stagg SRM70 is priced at the low end of the scale, but in several tests it has impressed greatly. In fact, it has been compared to microphones in the 10,000+ kroner class, and here it is very close.
