- Wavetable synthesizer with Kaoss Physics, Motion Sequencing 2.0, 60 stereo voices and more.
Full Description
A modern synth masterpiece moves up a class
Welcome to modwave mkII - now with nearly double the polyphony, expanded free-running LFOs and more! In 1985, KORG's DW-8000 combined digital wavetables with analog filters to create sounds that were impossible to create with analog oscillators. It remains a cult favorite today. modwave builds on the DW legacy and transforms it into a modern monster synth, featuring fully programmable oscillators, amazing filters, flexible modulation, plenty of polyphony, extensive pattern sequencing and straightforward and satisfying hands-on control that all deliver unique, juicy and easily accessible sounds and phrases.
modwave MKII also introduces two unique new tools for creating dynamic motion: Kaoss Physics and Motion Sequencing 2.0. Kaoss Physics combines an x/y Kaoss pad with modular "physics" to create a responsive, interactive controller that is not only powerful but also extremely fun to explore. Motion Sequencing 2.0 takes the organic, continuously evolving patterns that wavestate's Wave Sequencing 2.0 has enjoyed into a new world of motion, including multiple Lanes and real-time recording, to help you create complex and evolving phrases that other step sequencers can only dream of.
Like Wave Sequencing 2.0 (wavestate) and Altered FM (opsix), modwave's advanced wavetable synthesis delivers its own universe of unique sounds and a button-per-function layout that makes editing them quick and easy. There are hundreds of presets, organized by category buttons on the front panel, and all can be edited instantly via the four Mod buttons. modwave's signature wavetable sounds start with aggressive basses and leads and lush ambient pads that immediately inspire new tracks. But that's just the beginning.
If you want to dig deeper, you'll find endless meadows to explore. Store as many of your own sounds as you like; there's room for thousands more. You can also load your own samples, import wavetables in standard formats, and generate your own wavetables using the free WaveEdit software.
The new modwave mkII has a whopping 60 voices of polyphony - almost double the original modwave's 32, and an unprecedented number for a wavetable synth, regardless of price. Feedback from users has included an update to all LFOs, which can now be set to run freely, with delayed start, and with re-triggering. There's also been the addition of a pre/post switch for the reverb send, new modulation sources, and much more.

Editor/librarian
Modwave Editor/Librarian lets you edit and organize sounds via your macOS or Windows computer (including the latest Apple Silicon-based systems). Using USB networking for high-speed communication, it acts as an extended and additional front panel for the instrument, eliminating the need to sync or transfer data. Animations show the effects of modulation in real time - a great aid when programming.
Free software
Modwave comes with a diverse collection of music software to help you take your music to the next level, including Izotope's Ozone Elements for AI-powered mastering, Skoove to improve your keyboard playing skills, and software synths from KORG and other brands.
modwave native
modwave native is the fully compatible software counterpart to the hardware modwave synthesizer. modwave native is available in VST3, AAX, and standalone formats for both macOS and Windows, as well as in AU format on macOS. You can seamlessly exchange sounds between hardware and software. Produce in your DAW with modwave native, then play those same sounds on stage using the modwave hardware. Create sounds with the hardware's convenient interface, then share them with a computer-based collaborator. You can use any of the many third-party sound libraries available for the hardware modwave, as well as sample libraries designed for either modwave or wavestate.
Owners of a hardware modwave are eligible for a crossgrade license to modwave native at a special price via a coupon code linked to the modwave hardware's unique ID. By using the hardware and software versions together, you can get the best of both worlds: a physical instrument and full DAW integration. Here's how to generate the coupon:
- 1. Download modwave system version 2.1 or later, Editor/Librarian 1.3 or later
- 2. Update your modwave hardware and install the editor/librarian
- 3. In the editor/librarian, open the File menu and select "Get plug-in coupon"
- 4. A dialog box will appear with the coupon code; follow the on-screen instructions to use the coupon at https://korg.shop/.
